Closed Syllables and Silent-e Posters!

I created some posters that will be a great supplement in your classroom - I am using them to go along with the 95% Group.  We were told in our inservice that our first graders need to have their silent-e words down before second grade.  I created these posters to help my little firsties remember the vowel sound change when adding silent-e.

The other poster I created was to help with the steps used in the blending process.  A fun little reminder for my class!   Have a great year!

Polar Express Day!

Yeah!  I finally have put my Polar Express Day into a packet to share with you.  I have been doing this special day with my students for quite a few years now.
I send home the Polar Express tickets the night before with a note to the parents.  My students are allowed to wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, a pillow and a blanket.  I greet them at my door (that is decorated like the front of a train engine) and I punch their tickets with a hole punch.  The night before, I put my students chairs 2 by 2 to form a train – they enter my room and  they sit on the train and we read the book. We do the various activities in my packet during the morning and after lunch we watch the movie. I push the tables and chairs to the sides of the classroom during lunch to make room for the pillows and blankets. We pause the movie after the Hot Chocolate song and go to our tables for cookies and hot cocoa (I also buy my cups with lids!). I start the movie once everyone is served.  We also munch on popcorn while laying on the floor. At the end of the day everyone gets a bell (Oriental Trading has some awesome big ones with tags that say “Believe” on them.) I cheat and do the Polar Express Writing  train during the first week of December so that we can enjoy it the whole month long.
            Have a fun Day!

Elf Fun!, Unwrap a Good Book Bulletin Board, and a freebie!

Take a deep breath.... ready?!  It's almost December!!!!   I've been busy creating things for my class and for friends.   I just finished an elf packet.  I was wondering what I could hang from my ceiling and  in the hall that the students would love ... and I thought ELVES!!!!   Every morning in December, the students are always telling me what their elf is up to in their house.  If they like to talk about it, they will LOVE to write about it.  So on the week after Thanksgiving, I am going to read some cute Elf books (How to Catch an Elf is one of them) and we are going to write, craft, and complete some other learning activities with an elf theme.

I also included a bulletin board I created for a friend.  Unwrap a Good Book!  Each present opens up to a book report.  A fun way to get students reading this month.

And lastly, a freebie for you to use to thank any parents, paras, or volunteers who help your class throughout the year.    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you! 😘😘

Anyone Ready for A Day of Grinchy Fun!?

I am ready for December .... ( well, I've been ready in my heart since July)  My FAVORITE time of year.   I finally put all my ideas for my Grinchy Day of Fun into a packet for other teachers and moms  - come share in the fun.  Best day ever.  We dress up as Whos, the Grinch ... even the cute little dog!  Some students just decide to wear green that day.  I hang green streamers from my door and play music from the Grinch cartoon.  We eat green cookies,  we write, we craft, we do grammar and math activities ... we work so hard while having SO much fun!  We start the day reading the book and end it by watching the cartoon.  Here is a link to my store if you would like to get a copy.
