Parent Gift

A fun parent gift I found on Pinterest.  Snow globe ornaments.  They turned out so cute - I wanted to share.  I used ornaments that snap together.  I had the students put on their winter coats, hats, and gloves.  I had them stand in front of a white sheet of paper.  It was a bit time consuming to cut them out, but I watched a Christmas movie on T.V. and it went by pretty quickly.  I bent the bottom of their legs and hot glued them to the bottom of one half of the globe.  I then added the fake snow and silver glitter - about two pinches.  I snapped the ornament together using a little hot glue at four different points to make sure it would stay together. I hot glued a bow to the top and later added some wire to hang it.  So adorable!

Room on the Broom

Anyone else thinking about Halloween?  Well, maybe it's just me, but I'm hoping if my brain is in October - maybe the rest of me will cool off!  It's been hot out there!

Room on the Broom is one of my FAVORITE books to read in October.  I love the illustrations.  I love how the rhyming words flow.  It is so much fun to read and the children absolutely eat it up!

I created this new packet so that my class can spend a little more time learning about the characters, the rhymes, main idea, nouns and adjectives used throughout the book and even some creative writing - because we can never get enough writing practice that starts with a fun idea that gets the student's writing juices flowing!

Check it out!

All About Animals!

My class is heading up to Harriman State Park this month to learn about animal habitats from the park rangers!  This is such a fantastic field trip for my firsties,  however, I wanted to teach them a little bit about animals to allow them to have some prior knowledge before we head up there.  So here's the All About Animals packet I created for my students!  This may be something you can use to go along with a reading unit on animals or a field trip to a park or zoo in your area!

These guys are waiting for adoption!  Summer Reading Buddies!

Did you know that studies show that students' reading scores improve when they read to a stuffed animal?   Students' reading scores  will drop by the end of summer if they don't practice.

Send this fun reading incentive home with your students this summer or use it during your school year.

We are adopting our reading buddies tomorrow.  The student who read the most this school year gets to choose first.  I snagged these adorable pets at the Dollar Tree.  This can also double as a cute end of the year gift too.

We attach a reading "feeding" log to the collar - so we don't lose it - and they're ready to go!
The students return the completed logs to me at the end of the summer for a prize.

End of the Year Gift Labels for Bubbles!

So, when it comes to end of the year gifts, I usually head to Walmart or Dollar Tree and walk around until I'm inspired by something cute and cheap.  This year it was bubble wands.  They were under $4 for six of them.

Add these free labels and you are all set!

Zoo Fieldtrip Book!

End of the year is here!  Are you going on a fieldtrip?  We always take our first graders to the zoo.

This is a great way to turn your fun fieldtrip into an educational experience for your students!

This is such a simple book to assemble.  Simply run pages 3 through 17 back to back on your copy machine and let the  machine staple them for you.  Cut the books down the middle and you are ready to go!

On pages 5-12 the students select 8 animals that they observed to illustrate, name its class, and to write what they learned about it.

On pages 13- 16 the students illustrate and tell which animals were their favorite, least favorite, funniest scariest, most beautiful, most crazy, biggest and the smallest.

Enjoy and have a great trip to the zoo!
